Mobile together: Why private sharing is how we will drive cars in the future

Sharing is fun - Two friends sharing a ride

Trend: Sharing instead of owning

My car is parked unused for 23 hours a day and takes up parking space. At least, from a statistical perspective. When I'm on holiday, it's even the whole day. So why not make your own car available to others via private sharing and benefit financially? The concept of sharing has always existed: My neighbor lends me his lawn rake. In turn, I let him use my hedge trimmer. "Sharing instead of owning" has meanwhile become a trend that extends to more and more areas of our shared lives. For instance, many private individuals now occasionally rent out their apartments or individual rooms as accommodation using online marketplaces. But clothing and many other items are also being shared more and more often, mostly through digital platforms where it is possible to achieve a large reach. And most importantly, you can reach the people you want to reach.

More freedom through peer-to-peer sharing – not just financially

Since your own car is not used for most of the time, doing the same here seems obvious. Especially since professional car sharing is already widespread, especially in large cities. Many providers enable you to enjoy the benefits of driving, whenever and for as long as you want. Without having to own your own car. If I make my car available to someone through private sharing, I would of course like to be protected if something happens. So, it's practical when someone else takes care of it. Using the income, I could pay for the monthly car subscription. Even in rural areas where professional car sharing has not really gained a foothold yet, peer-to-peer (P2P) rental is a good opportunity for achieving individual mobility without your own car.

Sustainability

What's more, P2P sharing also serves the sustainability concern. If I share my car with others, fewer people have to own a car themselves, significantly fewer resources are used. At the same time, this form of use offers many the flexibility they want. Our lives are changing and so are our mobility needs. People who don't own their own car can rent one without great effort when they need one.

When it comes to payment processing, I want to be on the safe side as a lessor. This is easier than it sounds. Users can simply lean back and drive off with the help of a digital platform that processes vehicle and usage data centrally, controlling all processes from booking to payment. Even as a lessor, I don't have to worry about anything. And I still get my money. This means maximum convenience for both sides. At the same time, everyone involved enjoys the advantage of individual mobility.

We at Arvato Financial Solutions are convinced of the private sharing model, we have launched a cooperation partnership with Lynk & Co.

Digital platform for straightforward payment options

Lynk & Co

The car manufacturer sees itself as a lifestyle brand and is one of the international P2P pioneers. With P2P sharing, users want straightforward payment options. And that's exactly what we offer: Easy and secure handling of financial processes. Aqount, our flexible invoice-to-cash billing platform, covers everything from booking to payment and receivables management. In this way, we ensure simplified transactions and the best possible selection of payment methods with maximum security in the end-to-end processes.

We can thereby help people to share rather than own.
